Epic’s established pattern for the Epic Games Store’s October free games should excite horror fans. For years, the Epic Games Store has given away free games every week, ranging from small indie games to blockbuster AAA releases. The next batch of Epic Games Store free games is always revealed on Thursdays at 10 a.m. CT, and the store is likely to stick to that schedule for the month of October.

Rising Hell and Slain: Back from Hell are the free Epic Games Store games at the time of writing, and both will be available until October 13 at 10 a.m. CT. Rising Hell and Slain: Back from Hell will be replaced at that point by ToeJam & Earl: Back in the Groove, which will be the Epic Games Store free game offering from October 13 until October 20, when it will be replaced by another free game or two.

Users of the Epic Games Store won’t know about the next set of free games until later this week, but a pattern has been established that they could very well coincide with the Halloween season. For years, the Epic Games Store has given away a slew of free horror-themed games during the month of October, and while ToeJam & Earl: Back in the Groove doesn’t quite fit the bill, it appears that things will pick up for the rest of the month.

In previous years, the Epic Games Store has given away horror games such as Alan Wake: American Nightmare, Observer, Layers of Fear, Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs, Blair Witch, Among the Sleep, and DARQ: Complete Edition in October. In addition to horror games, the Epic Games Store has used October to give away more family-friendly games themed after the holiday season, such as both Costume Quest games, Ghostbusters: The Video Game Remastered, and Stubbs the Zombie in Rebel Without a Pulse.

Halloween-themed games in October

So far in October, the Epic Games Store has given away two Halloween-themed games, Rising Hell and Slain: Back from Hell. However, based on previous years, Epic Games Store users can expect even more season-appropriate games, especially as the Halloween holiday approaches. It’s anyone’s guess what the other Epic Games Store free games for October 2022 will be, but there are plenty of solid options, as users will discover in the coming days and weeks.
