Blizzard will take the Overwatch 2 servers offline once more to address more of the issues that have arisen since the game’s rocky launch. The game will be turned off around 9 p.m. ET (6 p.m. PT) and will be unavailable for an hour. This is the third downtime in two days, after Blizzard had to take the game offline twice on Thursday.

Fixing watchpoint packs

In a post on its forums, Blizzard detailed the fixes in the works as well as some updates on a few of the larger issues. Blizzard plans to fix Watchpoint Packs not appearing as available for players who preordered them during Friday evening’s downtime, as well as the LC-208 error that is preventing some players from logging in.

Blizzard confirmed in a post on Friday that the change to SMS Protect phone number requirements is now officially in effect. To be able to play Overwatch 2, players had to have a postpaid phone number registered to their accounts. However, in response to player outrage, Blizzard announced that it would relax the policy so that people who had previously played Overwatch with a linked Battle.net account would no longer need to register a phone number to play the sequel.

The company is also investigating the long wait times that players may be experiencing prior to matches. To address them, Blizzard stated in the post, “we are changing configurations within this system today and hope to somewhat shorten that wait throughout the day.”

Blizzard is upbeat about the fixes it put in place on Thursday. According to the forum post, the changes “resulted in a quadrupling of our capacity and an eventual reduction in login queues overnight.” Blizzard will keep an eye on things over the next few days, as “weekend gamer hours will be its biggest test yet.” Hopefully, things are starting to improve for Overwatch 2.
